A pattern perfect for working on during your knitting group or book club meetings when you want something a bit more complex than stockinette to hold your attention, but not so complicated that you need to concentrate on your knitting more than your conversation. The pattern is an easy to memorize 8-row repeat with nothing more difficult than a double yarn over. The picot edging is a simple bind-off technique, and even the heels, worked as an afterthought, lend themselves to social knitting. The end result is a beautiful, wearable lace sock that looks much more complicated.
Finished size: Women's medium size foot (size 7-9 shoe)
Gauge: 8.5 st = 1” in pattern
Materials:
- App. 400 yards fingering weight sock yarn (sample in pictures is knitted with 1 skein Lime & Violet Intentions Merino-Bamboo blend in the Connection colorway)
- 2.25mm needles (You will need needles to accommodate your preferred method of working a small circular circumference – I used Magic Loop, but DPNs or two circs will work fine. I have made notes when there are specifics depending on which method you're using.)
Notes and Tips:
- Socks are worked from the toe up.
- Heels are “afterthought” which means you need to remember to reserve yarn for them. Alternatively, you can plan to use a coordinating or contrasting yarn for the heels, should you wish.
- If you particularly favor another heel or toe method, feel free to substitute. Just be aware of stitch counts – you'll need to make sure you're working with the correct number of stitches when you resume the pattern.
