Super quick

I have a ton of stuff to finish up for work, which means I'll be working on the train and not blogging, and probably working at home, too. So...hi, Becky's a big cranypants, I'm still knitting socks, and I go to the doc tomorrow to get yelled at about how much weight I've gained. Not really, but, well, sort of. I have no guilt, though -- I've ben eating much more than I do when non-pregnant, but mostly fruit. Lots and lots of fruit. So really, I feel pretty healthy. Big, but healthy. I definitely look preggers, so at least I'm getting seats on trains. Oh, and I heard from the geneticist today -- all good news, so that's happy making. Bye.

Choices

So, for the past two days, I've chosen to work rather than blog. And when I say that, what I really mean is "I had a crap load of stuff to get done for work and rather than spreading it out over a few days I chose to get it off my plate so I could relax a bit for the rest of the week, which means I didn't really have time for anything else." Yesterday was the worst -- contact lenses and I really don't get along, but Becky thinks that glasses are just too much fun to pull off mommy's face. Since I actually need glasses to see more than a few inches in front of my face, this is not so much a fun game for me. So usually what I do is pop contacts in my eyes in the morning, then switch out for my glasses when I get to work. This seems to work fine. Unfortunately, both Monday and Tuesday this week I forgot my glasses, so I ended up wearing my contacts all day. By 1pm I had a raging headache, and by 6 I couldn't focus on the screen at all. I finally went home and finished up my work from there, which worked out fine, except I missed spending time with Kit. I mean, we were sitting together on the couch (I do love my laptop), but I was actually working on a project, and was thus not terribly sociable. But, I did get it finished, and while I do have more than enough to keep me busy over the next few days, none of it is as crazy making as the stuff I've been working on the past couple of days. So my sanity should be fine.

Beckybean is doing just fine, though her teeth are bothering her something awful and it's become a trial just to get her to eat baby food (yes, of course I'm giving her something for the pain. I'm not a monster.). Also, I think the heat/mugginess is not helping. To tell you the truth, it's not helping any of us. I snapped at her today and while I don't feel I was completely out of line (she was playing with the trash can for the 87th time, and she knows better, and I told her so), I did feel pretty bad about it, since I didn't even give her a warning. Ah, well. I apologized and kissed her and tld her mama wasn't mad at her and she was all smiles again. There were going to be pictures today but the camera battery is dead, so I'm charging it up.

There were also going to be pictures of progress on the HCY sock, which I have actually decided not to enter in the contest. I think I could be done in time (no, really), but I looked again at the prizes, and I think I'm actually better off submitting it to a publisher or self-publishing and selling it here on the site. I am very pleased with the design, and it's not that I don't think I could win. I'm just not that interested in winning $100 worth of yarn. I'm thinking maybe what I'm going to do is instead of planning to enter these contests that I find, I'm just going to use them as inspiration.

No

No is Becky's answer to absolutely everything these days -- even when she really means yes. Also her teeth are bothering her, she wants to spend all day outside, and just about every meal involves one or more tantrums. Plus, I majorly over did it yesterday with walking and am just completely worn out. I'm awfully lucky I have such a wonderful husband, who also happens to be a great daddy. Kit has handled Becky for most of this weekend and let me just slug around. Thanks, sweetie. It helped, a lot. Also, the tortellini was great. Love you.

Hard habit to make

Well. Looks like I already missed a day. I don't even have an excuse. I just plain ol' forgot. Ah, well, such is life. I remembered today, so here I am. Nothing very interesting going on here, except I did finally draft a pattern that will make the Hill Country socks look like I was picturing them. Don't know WTF I was thinking with that last design.

We got Becky's first pair of big girl shoes today -- lavender suede Pumas with pink suede trim. Very girly. She was so excited about them that she walked quite a ways downtown and then all the way back up past the train tracks. Our little baby's all grows up. Sniff.

Oh, and also, I got a new phone. I decided it was silly to be paying $40 a month when I use an average of 3 minutes of airtime -- essentially, I just want voice mail and something to have in case of emergency. So I've been checking around lately and Virgin Mobile has a plan where for $6.99/mo, you get all the normal bells and whistles of cell service, only you get no minutes so you pay 10 cents a minute whenever you make or receive a call. Even if I use 60 minutes every month (this has never happened in the 8 years I've had a cell phone), that's 13 bucks a month. Much better than $40. And Virgin's on the Sprint network, which is what I'm coming from (I had Nextel), and I've been very happy with their service. I also want to say that when I was calling Nextel to ask them things about cancelling, they were nothing but nice and helpful. No one tried to keep me from switching after I explained the situation to them...pretty much guaranteeing that if I ever do need a bigger plan, they're the ones I'll go with. Good job, Nextel. Virgin customer service has also been super helpful -- I ported my number, which was a huge pain when I switched from AT&T to Nextel...so much so that I ended up just getting a new number. Also, I was able to get my favorite ringtone (the Cantina song from Star Wars) downloaded, so I'm quite pleased with them so far.

Two in a row!

Hey, look at me, I'm postin' crazy! So, I got past the toe of the sock and started on the pattern...and somehow, the pattern that I have written down is not the pattern I've been picturing in my head. It's not even close. I don't know how this happened, but it's back to the drawing board. Sigh.

In other yarny news, I got my STR shipment yesterday. No spoilers here (I'm too lazy to put things behind a link, and I hate it when people spoil things for me, although I did find the "It happens on page 564" tshirts for the last Harry Potter book mildly amusing), but let me just say WOW!!! I liked the first two colorways, and have plans for both of them, but the ladies at BMFA have totally outdone themselves this time. I even like the pattern! (Note that I am not saying that the first two patterns aren't perfectly nice patterns, they're just not anything I'm interested in knitting. It happens.) Thanks, Socks That Rock ladies -- you truly do rock.

Today is the first day...

...of the rest of my blogging life. See, I don't knwo why I'm not posting as much as I used to. I still have lots to say, I just never get around to saying. So remember back in November when I did NaBloPoMo (for half a monthe, but still)? I've decided to not wait until November, but to push myself now to post every day. (Stop laughing. I can hear you. No, I'm serious this time.) And yes, Erica, even a one sentence post counts. If you don't think so, get your own damn blog and post more. Anyway, so I've made a button and everything, which you are free to steal (please don't link) if you want to join me in this endeavor.

And now on to the Becky Bean. Dude, she can walk now! She still prefers to have us hold at least one of her hands, but she is fully capable of moving herself from place to place, unassisted. And she's had her first haircut! A mommy special. Mommy will not be continuing to cut her hair as she gets older. Mommy's kind of bad at it. But nothing can stop the Cuteness that is Becky!

Just after the shearing

A few days earlier -- see the long hair in front? That's what I cut off. I got tired of cleaning sweet potatoes out of it.

There she sits, surrounded by books. I wonder where she gets that from?

Okay, know for some knitting stuff. You may remember that I'm supposed to be working on socks that are due for a contest on the 30th. Right. So this is my progress to date:

Hey! That's not a sock!

Right you are -- it's not even first cousin to a sock. That is the beginning of this. The pic was taken a few days ago, and I'm much further along now, but I finally put it down last night because apparently applied I-cord is a test of sanity and patience sent up from the bowls of hell by Beelzebub himself. So I've now just about got the toe done on the first sock as of this morning. It's all a matter of knitting -- the sock's actually been designed since early May. We'll see. If there's any betting going on, I want a piece.

After that (and after I put the heels in my Dad's socks, although I suppose there's really no rush now, since he lives in Dallas so it won't go below 90 for about 6 months), I'm making socks for myself. A new pattern, inspired by Cider Moon's Cherry Bomb colorway (of which it will be knit. Seriously -- I just can't stand not knitting with this yarn any more). Then mom's socks, then some maternity sweaters.

Speaking of, New Baby seems to be doing fine -- I'll get the big ultrasound (the one where we find out if it's an Ezekiel or a Fuschia Chartreuse) in about a month and let you all know how everything goes. I don't feel like I'm going to toss my cookies every second of every day, which in itself is a vast improvement over my last pregnancy, so everything's just ducky with me.

See you tomorrow! (Shut up!)
